All About the craftsman - James Royal

James Royal is a fine binder residing and working in Brisbane, Australia.

He has worked in the industry for the over 20 years.
After an initial 4 years as an apprentice James completed his tradesman's certificate in bookbinding and gold finishing.
From 1987 to 1988 worked with Helen Waddington at the Old Canberra Brickworks on contract with the National Library doing book restoration and fine binding.
In 1993 and 1994 he worked as an understudy with Robin Tate learning fine binding.
He has since worked in several places in Australia, Europe and New Zealand.

At present he works from his own workshop as a commissioned craftsman for goverment, companies and private collectors.

James has had his work on display and for sale at the Australian National Gallery.
